On the phone
A dispatcher asks for the address, the type of door or vehicle, and whether anyone is at risk. Expect a price range for the opening and an honest idea of when someone can get to you. If a child or pet is locked in a car, hang up and call 911.
When the locksmith arrives
They will ask for ID or something that links you to the address: a utility bill on your phone, a lease, a neighbour who knows you. That isn't suspicion. It protects you from someone else doing the same thing to your house.
Opening the door
Most residential locks open with picks or bypass tools in a few minutes once work starts. A high-security or damaged lock may need drilling; you should be told why, and what a new cylinder costs, before it happens.
Paying
The bill is the $29.00 service call fee plus labour, with lockouts starting at $19.00 on the price list. The old site said nights, weekends and holidays cost the same. Ask the dispatcher to confirm. Card payment is accepted.
Afterwards
Hide a spare with a neighbour you trust, not under the mat. If the key was lost rather than left inside, think about a rekey. More on emergency lockouts.
