02 · Rekey or replace
Rekey or replace? A quick rule
If the lock turns smoothly and you like how it looks, rekeying is usually enough. The cylinder pins are changed so old keys stop working, and the hardware stays on the door. The price list starts rekeys at $19.00 plus the service call fee.
Replace the lock when it is worn, loose, damaged after a break-in attempt, or when you want a stronger deadbolt or a keypad. New locks on a door that already has the holes start at $25.00 for basic locks; a door with no hole cut starts at $85.00.
- Bought a house or condo in town? Rekey on day one.
- Lost a key with your address on the tag? Rekey that day.
- Lock sticks in cold weather? Ask about a repair before a replacement.
03 · Brands
Lock brands mentioned on the old site
Kwikset and Schlage cover most Southington houses. Mul-T-Lock, Arrow and Sargent show up more on rentals, multi-family buildings and outbuildings. If you know the brand stamped on the latch, tell the dispatcher; it helps the locksmith bring the right pins and parts.

04 · FAQ
Questions people ask
Can you rekey all my locks to one key?
Usually, yes, if the locks share a keyway, which most Kwikset or most Schlage sets do. Mixed brands may need a cylinder swap. Ask when you call.
Will a lockout damage my door?
The aim is always to open the door without damage, using picks or bypass tools. Some high-security or broken locks need drilling; the locksmith explains that before starting.
Do landlords need anything special?
For eviction lock changes, have the paperwork ready and be on site. The locksmith changes or rekeys the locks once the legal step is done.
